Jess Rose Movement Wisdom 200-Hour Online YTT Reviews
There are so many online 200-hour teacher trainings, and deciding which way to jump can be overwhelming.
To help you navigate your many options, I’m sharing my reviews of my experience with one of Yoga Alliance’s most highly rated teachers: Jess Rose Movement Wisdom Online YTT.
Diving into this course, I was struck by the depth of its structure, content, and delivery. Unlike anything I’ve encountered, the program uniquely blends traditional and innovative teaching methods, ensuring consistent quality.
This course gave me a rock-solid foundation in yoga’s physical and philosophical aspects. The name ‘Movement Wisdom’ is no coincidence!
Most importantly, the program gave me what I needed to become an excellent yoga teacher.
The moment I started, I knew this wasn’t just another course. It was a journey through profound learning and personal growth.
I was unprepared to lead a yoga class after my first YTT.
However, once I completed my training with Jess, I was equipped with so much knowledge and skill that I was confident in my ability to teach and succeed as a yoga teacher.
One standout feature was the instructor’s ability to make complex concepts accessible, much like unraveling the mysteries of yoga philosophy and anatomy in an enlightening and practical way.
I started leading sold-out retreats right after graduation. I have since created my online classes, collaborated with a large UK music company, and was invited to teach at the Om Yoga Show in London.
Whether you want to improve your practice or succeed as a professional teacher, I recommend this YTT to anyone who cares about their yoga education.

To give you a better idea of what to expect, I’ll walk you through the critical aspects of the program:
Jess Rose (Lead Teacher)
Jess Rose is the program creator and lead trainer at Movement Wisdom.
She is a fantastic yoga teacher and gifted storyteller with the rare skill of explaining complicated things (e.g., the mechanics of the shoulder joint 🤯) in simple terms.
From the outset, I loved Jess’ vibe, a mix of being a consummate professional yet equally laid-back and approachable with a great sense of humor.
Another thing that always stood out to me was how much Jess encourages her students to think outside the box, to think for themselves, and to find their style.
Perhaps the biggest compliment I can give her, however, is that I never got bored during my 200 hours with her. Not once!
The instructor’s passion is palpable, making every lesson resonate on a personal level, reminiscent of a mentor guiding you through the complexities of yoga.
I put my experience with Jess at the top of this review because finding the right teacher is the most critical aspect of choosing your YTT.
I cannot encourage you enough to practice with and compare different YTT leaders before making your final decision.
Fortunately, most online YTTs have a money-back guarantee or, even better, a free trial. So you can test more than one program. (This, by the way, is a massive advantage of online courses over in-person teacher training.)
Since Jess has filmed many classes and programs for some of the biggest online yoga platforms, practising with her is straightforward. (I considered this much more difficult with other YTTs because not all teachers had a demonstrable track record.)

Four Styles of Yoga
In the Movement Wisdom YTT, I learned to practice and teach four different styles of yoga. This was huge for me because learning multiple yoga styles pays off so much!
Not only is it fantastic for your practice, but if you intend to teach yoga professionally, you’ll have a natural edge.
Today, I can offer fast and slow, strong and gentle, energizing and relaxing yoga classes. This variety opens the door to new students and keeps my existing student base returning.
No other teacher training offers this much variety, certainly not to the same degree.
Asana Labs and Anatomy
The Movement Wisdom 200-Hour training includes more than 100 detailed pose breakdowns.
These are videos where Jess explains in detail what matters (and doesn’t matter) in each asana.
She gives abundant cues for each pose, shows many variations and modifications we can take, and explains how bone structure or body type can affect our experience in the pose.
These sessions were full of ‘aha!’ moments because they shattered all the outdated cues and ideas I had picked up from my previous teachers, who had a different depth of knowledge and perhaps weren’t quite so up to speed with the latest research.
Since the YTT was online, I could always come back to review certain poses. (Another tremendous advantage of online over in-person training.)
There comes a point when the wealth of information starts to stick. Still, at the beginning of my teaching career, it was so helpful to regularly revisit individual asana labs as I prepared my classes or thought about how I could help particular students with specific needs.
All the pose breakdowns are closely integrated with the anatomy lectures on the one hand and the asana classes on the other. The anatomy lectures give you the theoretical foundations for what you learn in the pose breakdowns.
The whole anatomy module is designed to be practical. As a yoga teacher and practitioner, I learned everything I need to know about the human body.
The key questions the course answers in terms of anatomy are:
● Which muscles do we need to strengthen for which poses?
● How do individual variations like bone length or body type affect yoga?
● Why can’t I get deeper into this or that yoga pose?
You may think, “Ah, okay … well, that’s obviously the stuff I need to learn,” but I can assure you that you won’t learn these fundamental concepts of yoga anatomy in every YTT! It’s the iteration, not the rule!
Lectures about Teaching Yoga
I know from my own experience and have heard from other graduates that most YTTs will offer you sequence templates and tell you exactly which cues to use in which pose.
The Movement Wisdom approach is the opposite. Jess strives to empower her students to create classes, develop cues, and find their unique voices as teachers.
That’s a challenge, but it pays off in the long run.
As Jess can effectively equip you with all the tools you need to develop your style and become an independent yoga teacher, you can side-step being attached to a prescribed template and instead, accelerate your growth into a confident and creative teacher.
Yogic Life Coaching
The yoga philosophy module of the training was a real surprise for me. In my previous 200 hour training we also spent a lot of time talking about yoga philosophy, however I found the approach quite rigid.
The lectures were informative but didn’t really ignite my curiosity or challenge me to reflect. In the Movement Wisdom course it was – again – the opposite. The philosophy module was not just informative but intriguing and fun!
Jess managed to show us how we can take the teachings of the Sutras, the Gita, and the Upanishads and apply them to our own lives in the modern world. This has had a lasting impact on me, and I learned how to weave these philosophies into my classes as a teacher. This added another layer of differentiation for me as a yoga professional.
Course Structure and Training Manual
Being an educator myself, I appreciate a good curriculum. That’s what you get in the Movement Wisdom YTT. The course is divided into 16 chapters,h offering classes from different modules.
This means you don’t learn the anatomy first and then move on to tackle all the philosophy. Instead, you take one bite from each module at a time.
That’s that’s because all the different aspects of teaching yoga are interrelated. Combined with the bonus of receiving training in multiple learning formats, this keeps the learning experience balanced and exciting.
Side note: Movement Wisdom now offers the whole training as a secret podcast, to which you get access when you sign up.
The cool thing is that you can listen to the training inside your podcast app (e.g., Spotify). This recent update makes the course even more flexible.
I also have to mention the training manual.
After signing up for the program, you can decide if you want a printed copy shipped to your door or to stick with the PDF that’s included for everyone.
I thought I would use only the PDF, but I quickly changed my mind and ordered the paper manual. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth every penny! The manual is beautiful and so helpful.
Other YTT manuals I’ve seen remind me of old school textbooks.
The Movement Wisdom manual is very different. It’s designed to be a notebook, not a textbook. The manual guides you through the program.
It goes hand in hand with the lectures, and it contains more than 1000 images of yoga poses, human anatomy, mudras, etc., whilst deliberately leaving lots of space for your notes.
Jess encourages her students to think for themselves and become independent teachers.
Teacher’s Club and Course Community
Even though the course is self-paced, I always felt part of a training community.
This is not just because of the live calls (Welcome Ceremonies, Teaching Practices, Live Finals, Community Events) but also because the course “lives” on the community platform.
You access one integrated platform for the entire experience. This makes it super easy to contact other students as you go through the program.
The community aspect was a game-changer for me, offering support and insights that enriched my learning experience like never before.
Once you graduate from the course, you’ll join the Teacher’s Club and Course Community. The name says it all!
It’s a place for yoga teachers to share resources and inspiration, get help, and get in touch. I’d love to see you there someday!
Training platform and process
The whole training experience is highly convenient, intuitive and “bite-size”. It goes like this:
- Once you sign up you’re invited to create your account on the aforementioned course and community platform. You can access the training materials via a mobile app or through your web browser.
- You start with the first chapter and then you unlock one chapter at a time. That’s great to prevent overwhelm. All the videos are recorded in a studio in 4K quality. And they are professionally edited. Each chapter closes with a short Empowerment Review to make sure your learning is successful.
- You’ll also join live teaching practice sessions which are lead by Jess teaching assistants Hanna, Stefanie and Amanda. All three of them are excellent teachers and themselves students of Jess.
The amount of teaching practice you get in the Movement Wisdom training is more than in most other courses. It might be a little intimidating at first but it pays off after the training. Plus, it’s a wonderful opportunity to gain confidence and practice speaking in public even if you don’t plan to teach. - Once you’re done with all 16 chapters you complete a final exam on the platform (multiple choice) and then you move on to teach your Final Practicum. That’s a 30 minute class which you can teach during a live call with other graduates or record and then submit online. In any case, you’ll receive personal feedback from Jess.
- Finally, you get your (beautiful) certificate and a personal letter of recommendation that will help you land your first job as a teacher. You can now register with the Yoga Alliance (The process is quick and easy, Jess and her team are available to help you with it.)

Okay, that was a lot of info. I hope that you found it helpful.
