Sacred Paths Yoga: Self Paced 200hr online Yoga teacher training review

First impressions: A heartfelt hello from the elements

Right away, I was welcomed into an Opening Ceremony and I could tell this was a special Yoga Teacher training. What drew me into Sacred Paths Yoga’s 200hr Online YTT was the way they wove Earth medicine and the four elements into traditional yoga teachings.

This space was intentional, heartfelt, and sacred. There was music, chanting, and ceremony woven into the lessons. Darin and Lacey, the founders and lead teachers, lead from the heart and bring a warmth and authenticity to the course.

Note: This review was commissioned by YOGI TIMES, but the experience and opinions are entirely my own. I’ve studied three YTTs now and used my experience to formulate this review.

What you need

Me, working diligently on my yoga teacher training assignments, seated in a cozy wicker chair and fully immersed in my online learning journey.
Me, a Sacred Path Yoga student, participating in an online lecture. I’d often take my laptop and study in peaceful and comfortable environments.
  • Tech: A laptop, tablet, or smartphone with internet. You’ll need to record and upload video assessments, so a camera is a must (your phone camera is fine).
  • Space: A yoga mat, a journal, and a quiet space to breathe, move, and reflect.
  • Mindset: Come with an open heart and curiosity!

Flow speed

This course is available in two formats: a live 40-day immersion with group calls or a fully self-paced option with lifetime access.

I chose self-paced and took six months to complete it, which was perfect for my on-the-road lifestyle.

FAQ quick hits:

  • Minimum Completion Time: 40 days
  • Time Commitment: 6–8 hours/week for 40-day pace
  • Deadlines? Nope. Move as slowly or quickly as you like.
  • Community Support? Included in the 40-day format, but not built into the self-paced option

Sweat factor

The Vinyasa and Hatha classes offer a great balance of strength-building and mindful movement. They build gradually into faster-paced flows that can really get your heart rate up, while still staying grounded in intentional, breath-led practice.

That said, the overall vibe leans more meditative and conscious. Think moving with intention.

Zen factor

Tenille, a Sacred Path Yoga student, sits cross-legged on a yoga mat in a serene outdoor setting. With hands in Anjali Mudra (prayer position), she practices a moment of mindfulness and gratitude in front of her laptop, engaging in an online yoga teacher training session.
Me participating in an online yoga class, in the comfort of my own space, surrounded by nature, the calm space reflects the tranquil essence of my practice.

So high it could be floating in lotus pose! Every element, Earth, Water, Fire, Air, has its own ceremony. There were water blessings, manifestation rituals, letting go, and gentle mantra.

One of my most memorable moments? During the Letting Go Ceremony, I made a talisman for the first time and released it to the Earth! A new and special experience.

Curriculum highlights

Here’s what you’ll dive into:

  • Vinyasa, Hatha, Restorative, and Yin Yoga
  • Functional anatomy, alignment & adjustments
  • Yoga philosophy including the Yoga Sutras, Chakras, and Gunas
  • Sanskrit, mantra, and guided meditation
  • Qi Gong integrated for energetic balance
  • Yogic diet and lifestyle practices
  • Teaching methodology, cueing, and sequencing
  • Yoga in the Marketplace
  • Ancient Indian and Indigenous Storytelling

The content flowed beautifully and touched parts of yoga that many courses skip. It felt holistic, not just technical.

Certification & assessment

Sacred Paths is Yoga Alliance Certified, which adds global credibility to your certificate. Here’s what assessment looks like:

  • A written Guru Reflection
  • A recorded SPY Vinyasa sequence
  • A Pose Presentation focused on anatomy
  • A full 90-minute Asana class video of your design

The feedback was the highlight of the course for me. It was deeply personalised, encouraging, warm, and useful.

Support and communication

Even as a self-paced student, I never felt alone. Darin and Lacey’s responses were prompt, thoughtful, and kind. Lacey’s feedback on my classes was genuine and authentic, and I could tell she really took the time to write the feedback thoughtfully and thoroughly.

Community and engagement

In the self-paced format, there isn’t a built-in peer group, but the energy of the teachings made me feel connected. If you need community motivation, SPY offers a 40-day live format which includes group calls and check-ins.

Platform design

Explore the Sacred Paths Yoga online course platform — a user-friendly, well-organized interface with clickable modules for meditation, asana practice, and ceremonies, designed to guide students through their 200-hour YTT journey.

The online portal was clean, easy to navigate, and worked well on my laptop. A few videos had lower production quality, especially those filmed live, but that actually made it feel more personal.
