Alicia Tan and her partner opened the first Yoga Movement studio in 2012. Today, Yoga Movement is actively growing with six well-established locations in Singapore – all of them warm and welcoming.
Alicia founded Yoga Movement because of the lack of beginner-friendly yoga studios in Singapore. She thought existing studios were intimidating and not welcoming to people interested in giving yoga a try. So set about creating a warm and friendly place where people who think themselves “too stiff to do yoga” will feel welcome.
The Yoga Movement Studio is simple and sophisticated. You step into the studio and feel the twists on back-to-the-basics – clean white with neutral palette accents, open-air designs, and lots of streaming natural light. The space is large with spacious locker rooms and a comfy chill out area perfect for relaxing alone or with friends before or after class.
There’s also the super healthy café “Grounded” offering top-notch coffee, smoothies, healthy cakes, power balls and some delicious simple lunch options joining the chill out area.
With classes running from 7 am through to 10 pm there are plenty of classes to chose. From Basics, Core, Power to hot classes the classes are accessible for new and experienced practitioners alike. Yoga Movement also runs a “Level Up” workshop for people who are ready to uplevel their practice.
I joined a power flow class at the Robertson Quay studio which is also a great location for other Yogi lifestyle treats. Our young, flexible teacher lead us through a strong flow sequence complete with challenging arm balances plenty of sweat. There were some variations offered to people less advanced and a welcoming feeling of “We all belong here” in the studio.
YM offers one-off class purchases and small to larger packages. A single class is $30 and a package of 10 which can be used in all branches $220. All classes are 60 minutes. Water bottles and towel hire $1 each.
