sensual, springtime skin care

Formerly what many considered to be  a veritable coma-inducing suburb of Los Angeles, Eagle Rock has, in recent yerars, blossomed into a vibrant and eco-friendly zone. Thanks to relatively affordable home prices and commercial rents, scores of ecologically aware and culturally creative people have moved in or opened up businesses here. Leading this wave is The Garden Spa’T spa, which manages to be ecologically sound and reasonably priced. Located in a groovy old house with a quiet and intimate vibe, the spa is owned and operated by Tanis Rhines, who keeps clients at ease with her caring and upbeat manner.

The spa’s green philosophy and eco-safe body care products ensure that you receive various organic or nature-based treatments. Thus The Garden Spa’T spa substances are far better for you and the Earth than the chemically loaded ones used by most other spas.

For the best value, cleansing, exfoliating and sensual thrills, go for the Eminence Organics Fire & Ice Treatment Facial. This stimulating experience involves several steps. Imagine the pleasure of feeling an alpha hydroxy acid mask made from grapes and apples that clears away your dried skin. When the mask heats up and starts consuming carbon emissions, leftover make-up or whatever else is trapped inside your pores, your face tingles in ecstasy. Then a cooling masque is applied and makes you feel like your entire head has gotten lighter and more alert. Magical moisturizers leave skin with a dewy finish. Imparting a long-lasting rosy glow, this is the ideal treatment to get before a big date or a photo session. While Tanis is too tactful to say it, this is also a great facial for oily or problem skin. Ninety dollars will get you 80 minutes of bliss.

Perhaps the most distinct and smart advantage The Garden Spa’T extends is their monthly special treatment offer. Recent specials include the Eminence Organics Chocolate and Roses Decadence Treatment Facial. At $75, this is a great skin care value for the money. If you like relaxing amidst heavenly chocolate and rose aromas, so much the better. This Hungarian chocolate soufflé masque and red roses treatment will cleanse and renew#mce_temp_url# your face. It’s appropriate for all skin types, but the rose extract in it is especially soothing for dry complexions.

While most skin care spas offer microdermabrasion, The Garden Spa’T offers it at a great price. Microdermabrasion deeply exfoliates and removes dead skin cells to reveal dynamic skin. Tanis uses diamond-head and/or crystals on her equipment, and 60 minutes of straight dermabrasion costs $80. If you buy four sessions, you will receive the fifth one free.

One 80-minute microdermabrasion facial costs $90. The Microdermabrasion and Alpha Hydroxy Acid Fruit Pulp and Paprika Treatment combine a physical exfoliation with a fruit acid and tingling hot paprika facial in 80 minutes for $110.

If you want to shed maximum skin, there is always the option of receiving a peel. Alpha hydroxy peel with acid derived from sugar cane costs $20 as an add-on. If you get it as a stand-alone, it’s $50.If you want eco-safe, painless and effective waxing at a good price, then Tanis is your girl. Eyebrow wax and tweeze is $20; chin or lip is $6; bikini wax is $20; full legs are $45 and up; and back is $45.

Because Tanis often introduces new treatments and specials by the month, it’s recommended that you check out the Web site to find out what’s new and blooming. Services are by appointment only, so book yours now before the Summer Solstice!
