londoncryo
Cryotherapy, once the reserve of athletes, is becoming more popular throughout London as an alternative wellness treatment–to encourage healing and energize the body. Whole body cryotherapy is a three-minute treatment using extreme cold, via liquid nitrogen mist, on the body surface, which enhances positive effects on health and wellness, sports recovery, pain management, and even beauty.
LondonCryo is a very welcoming place, and the staff makes sure to talk through any anxieties before a session to ensure that you are comfortable with the process. Despite arriving slightly nervous (apparently most people are before their first treatment) I quickly relaxed and felt safe going into the Cryocabin.
There’s no denying it, it feels plenty weird as you step into a cylindrical tank wearing nothing but knickers, crocs, and some gloves to blitz your body with icy air. However, having expected bone-numbing coldness, the kind you get stepping into a glacial stream, I was pleasantly surprised by how tolerable, and dare I say it…nice the cold of the tank was.
It’s definitely cold, there’s no way around that, but because it’s dry air rather than water it doesn’t have the same shocking effect, and it was comfortable despite perhaps a bit of sensation in my calf muscles. A member of their staff stands outside the cabin speaking with you whilst you are being cooled down, offering a reassuring presence in a very unfamiliar setting and ensuring that you feel comfortable throughout.
After a few minutes, coming out of the cabin is welcome relief, and I definitely experienced a sense of lightness in my body, which subsided into a general feeling of relaxation and muscle release over the next few hours. It is recommended that to reap the full benefits of cryotherapy you attend several sessions, and stay in for three minutes rather than two. Many people report noticeable positive effects from regular sessions.
LondonCryo is definitely worth checking out whether for health reasons, or even just out of curiosity. You’re in safe hands!
