Watercress Bali – Kerobokan & Ubud

There were a handful of established cafés in the Petitenget/Batu Belig area of Bali and then came Watercress. It’s safe to say that it raised the bar for everyone in the area in the sense that there is truly a before and after.

Their constant commitment to fresh quality ingredients, an inventive menu as well as consistent great service sets them apart from the other players in the health-conscious café business.

Watercress is overall a family story.

Childhood friends from Byron Bay Pablo and Jordie took over Pablo’s mom’s business and gave it a complete turnaround.

Much care was spent in the renovation of the space, down to the design of the furniture and bathrooms to give it a homey, cozy feel.

They expanded the menu to appeal to an omnivorous palate with inspiration from the likes of Ottolenghi.

Their well chosen team is capable and friendly.

Even the curated music selection reveals that an expert hand is behind the scenes, checking on every little detail.

And so it is that when you walk into this sunny café one feels very much at home in a casual, pretty space.

But make no mistake, we go there for the food.

It’s plain GOOD.

The action starts early at 7:30 am with a big breakfast menu that is available throughout the day.

Expect all of the trendy dishes of the moment here – from açaí bowls to poached eggs on gluten-free avocado toast. Portions are generous and garnished with outmost detail.

The lunch showcase is what made this place big – a display reminiscent of a local warung exhibits numerous small dishes that you can mix and match to create your own unique lunch plate.

Also available is an a-la-carte lunch menu of big salads and hearty sandwiches and burgers. Pastries and cakes sourced from the area’s best bakers satisfy a sweet tooth and there is a growing deli section of jams and chutneys to take home.

At night, Watercress transforms into Watercress Malam – a different menu promises “rustic world flavors”, and while this selection is not entirely vegetarians there are still various options to satisfy your palate and conscience.

A full bar and wine list compliments the dinner offer and for the abstemious – there is always Happy Kombucha!

Hours: Sun – Sat 7:00 am – 5:00 pm – Mon – Sat 6:00 pm – 11:00 pm
