Once you enter Volkshotel, you’ll never want to leave. This is the place, where you can enjoy yourself 24/7. Regardless of whether you’re working and relaxing, into drinking or wellness, partying till sunrise or enjoying a long, luxurious sleep. Yin and Yang. Volkshotel has it all.

The name is derived ‘Volkskrant’, a famous Dutch newspaper that was produced here previously. After the company moved, the great industrial building was occupied by artists and other creatives. In collaboration with them, Volkshotel opened in July 2014. It’s the mix of modern and retro with crazy “artsy-fartsy” details that give this hotel a special touch.

The name Volkshotel (People’s Hotel) emphasizes its welcoming nature, where both leisure and professional purposes are served. Workaholics like to come here for the comfortable work spaces, strong wifi, and even stronger coffee.

Hipsters love the exciting cultural program, great cocktails and food. And underground party people and students can enjoy themselves in the bar Doka, which is open daily until 6am.

However, not everybody knows that Volkshotel also has a great offer for the conscious wellness community and health lovers! Start or finish your day with a yoga session on the roof terrace, where one can overlook the skyline of Amsterdam. After that, you can jump into one of the hot tubs and sauna facilities and spoil yourself with a relaxing massage or fresh haircut.

You can also get sweaty during a bootcamp class. And of course, feel free to mix and match! In the end, it’s all about balance, right? To let you in on a secret: the hot tubs and sauna are open for the “Volk” (aka ‘everybody’) on Sunday.

All other days, this great roof wellness is only accessible for Volkshotel guests and yogis. A wonderful “extra offer” we say, included in the price of a yoga class taught by Mareille.

Restaurant Canvas has one of the best rooftop terraces of the city, and is a great place for dining and dancing. There is a varied menu with delicious, healthy and vegetarian options. We really enjoyed the Puffed Celeriac with pecorino, linseed and celeriac sauce.

And last but not least: our luxury night in one of their design rooms! We have chosen the room called ‘You are here’. This is a white, bright and clean room with a huge bathtub and a window that looks over the city. While bubbling you can even see the famous Rijksmuseum!

But the best part of this room is the projection and sound system. Close the curtain and choose where you want to be on the map of Amsterdam: Westerpark, the canals, red light district or café ‘t Mandje? Wow, what a different vibe!

We told you already that you never have to leave Volkshotel. Each design room is unique and has its own character. You can choose from a cinema room, a bicycle room and for the lovebirds, there is even a room with handcuffs. Although also the normal rooms are super cool because of their pop art style.

The hotel is located in an upcoming district and there is a subway stop in front of the hotel. If you find time to leave Volkshotel to visit the city, they do provide a creative map drawn by one of the artists of the house which will guide you to all the hidden treasures Amsterdam has to offer. Take a hike or rent a bike.

Oh, you can also hop on their boat for an alternative canal tour through Eastern Amsterdam. Volkshotel: Never a dull moment.

We are fan!
