Healthy food in Nyuh Kuning
Though Ubud is full of vegan friendly options, it is seldom that one finds a vegan restaurant, well, pretty. Thankfully that conundrum has been solved by Sage, a lovely place just south of Ubud (in Nyuh Kuning) where one can enjoy a delicious vegan meal in a date-worthy atmosphere. The restaurant is small and simple, very tastefully done, with lots of beautiful touches like inspiring messages in your cutlery packet! You can also admire the astonishing variety of Ubudian characters who eat here – we were surrounded by a scandinavian family, what appeared to be Captain Jack Sparrow on a date and a group of stylish young women.
Open from breakfast until dinner, Sage offers an international mix of flavors, that leans more towards mexican inspirations in the evening. The menu has lots of small dishes – great for sharing, as well as bigger vegetable bowls. We were delighted with the jackfruit tacos, the cauliflower fritas, potato flautas and the jibarito. Breakfast is a mix of fluffy pancakes and the now ubiquitous smoothie bowls. They have several gluten-free options.
They take their vegan seriously. You won’t find beer or wine in the menu, but you can more than make up for that with the big selection of yummy vegan desserts in their ever-evolving menu board.
If you’re going there at night it’s best to book ahead.
