living well bistro

Living Well Bistro has got to be one of Portland’s best-kept secrets. This vegan restaurant was opened in an unlikely spot: tucked away inside a hospital, Adventist Medical Center, which is way out in East Portland.

What makes this place a real find is the top-notch, innovative food at extremely reasonable prices. For breakfast, the bistro has solid vegan staples like a tofu scramble or oatmeal, and diners can also get a seasonal fruit platter with pine nut cheese.

Lunch and dinner menus focus on soups, salads, pizzas, tacos, and lots of different sandwiches and wraps. There are plenty of choices for gluten-free diets, and even several dishes appropriate for raw diets, such as a live soft taco with sunflower pâté and pine nut sour cream. You can also sample the daily chef specials.

Diners with a sweet tooth can choose from chocolate or vanilla mousse made in-house with blended cashews, agave, cacao nibs or vanilla bean. Other desserts come from local vegan & gluten-free bakery Petunia’s Pies & Pastries.

Living Well Bistro is a bit out of the way for Portland visitors, and even many locals seldom wander this far east! But if you have the time and transportation, the bistro is well worth seeking out.
