On Friday, April 24th, join Gopi Kallayil, Buddhist Teacher Sharon Salzberg, Philanthropist Jeff Walker, and New York Knick’s mindfulness teacher George Mumford ‘s a discussion on how today’s visionaries are incorporating yoga and mindfulness into the highest levels of professional sports, business, and philanthropy to create a more compassionate and mindful global community. There will be an opportunity for audience Q&A and the panel will share meditation techniques and practices.

The “Life in Balance” series is part of Yoga Journal LIVE! New York. Beginning April 23 at the New York Hilton, renowned yogis Rodney Yee, Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, Elena Brower, Kathryn Budig, Jason Crandell, Dharma Mittra, and others will teach a variety of classes during full-day workshops and weekend classes.

Among the more than 100 classes, there’s also “Hiking Yoga” in Central Park, and “Yoga Rock’s: The 80s,” yoga done to the music of Duran Duran, the Cure, and other 80s hits. Yoga Journal LIVE! New York also features free lectures and community classes for both adults and kids, as well as a vibrant Yoga Market that is free and open to the public.

About the Life in Balance Panelists:

Gopi Kallayil is the chief evangelist of brand marketing at Google. He works with Google’s sales teams and customers and helps grow customer brands through digital marketing. In his prior roles, he worked as chief evangelist for Google+, led the marketing team for the company’s flagship advertising product, AdWords, in the Americas and Asia Pacific, and the marketing team for AdSense, Google’s publisher facing product.

He is an avid yoga practitioner, triathlete, public speaker, global traveler, and Burning Man devotee. He has spoken at TEDx, Renaissance Weekend, The World Peace Festival, and Wisdom 2.0. He hosts a TV program on cable and YouTube called Change Makers.

Jeff Walker is the Vice Chair in the United Nations Envoy’s Office for Health Finance and Malaria. Previously, he was executive-in-residence at Harvard Business School, focusing on social enterprises and collaboration, and a lecturer at the Kennedy School. At Harvard, he also helped to develop a course in exponential fundraising for nonprofit leaders at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations.

He has served as the chairman of Millennium Promise, with the United Nations and Columbia University, an incubator to eliminate extreme poverty, and was the chairman of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation (Monticello), where he still serves as an Emeritus

Trustee. Jeff, Co-Author of The Generosity Network, also Co-Founded and was Chairman of Npower, an organization that provides shared technology services to nonprofits.

Sharon Salzberg is the Co-Founder of the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, Massachusetts. She has been a student of meditation since 1971, guiding meditation retreats worldwide since 1974. Sharon’s latest book is Real Happiness At Work: Meditations for Accomplishment, Achievement, and Peace, published by Workman Publishing.

She is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post and is also the author of several other books including the New York Times Best Seller, Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation: A 28-Day Program, Love Your Enemies, Faith: Trusting Your Own Deepest Experience, and Lovingkindness: The Revolutionary Art of Happiness.

George T. Mumford is a sports psychology consultant, personal and organizational development consultant, executive coach and an Insight Meditation teacher. While working at the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, he developed and implemented mindfulness-based stress reduction programs for an inner-city “satellite” clinic and several Massachusetts correctional institutional facilities.

He has presented at many national events and was one of several meditation teachers invited to participate in “Healing through Great Difficulty: A Meeting Between His Holiness the Dalai Lama Former Prisoners and Meditation Teachers.” As a sports psychology consultant, he has worked with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Chicago Bulls, as part of Phil Jackson’s support staff. George has also worked with Boston College men’s and women’s Basketball; Ohio University athletic department; University of Minnesota women’s basketball; and three premiership football (Soccer) clubs. Currently, George is working with the New York Knicks, the Holy Cross Men’s Basketball team, and other athletic departments, and organizations, and private clients.
