| Etched in your palms are clues to your character, goals and destiny. Once you understand these messages, you can fulfill your potential for a richer and fuller life.
Thousands of years ago, ancient civilizations developed empowerment tools to support and enhance their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Individuals from all walks of life used such modalities as astrology, palmistry, numerology, yoga and energy healing to help bring balance and meaning into their lives. Although they have long been considered esoteric by western culture, these arts are returning to mainstream use as people discover their efficacy and relevance. Palmistry is one of the most accurate and important of these traditions because of its extraordinary capacity to reveal our strengths, weaknesses and possible futures, all neatly recorded in the palm prints. A time-tested discipline, palmistry unlocks profound information that can help us make the most of our lives.
In the West, palmistry has either been dismissed as frivolous or viewed in a negative light based upon street-corner gypsies notorious for taking advantage of people. In most major American cities we can usually find an office flashing a neon palm where erroneous, even alarming information is doled out to anyone who wanders in on a whim. However, the true art and science of palmistry originated over 3000 years ago in India where it was recorded in the vedic spiritual texts and used in a positive manner to inspire people to expand upon their innate gifts. The most rudimentary techniques were taken to Eastern Europe by gypsies whose mercenary use of the discipline gave it its negative connotation. But palmistry was also brought to China, Japan and Southeast Asia by Buddhist monks where it was recognized as an important tool and practiced with deserved respect.
Palmistry comprises four different categories that include science, art, craft and philosophy. The science of palmistry refers to the basic reading of the lines and mounds on the hand; the art refers to how skillfully the palmist tunes in to a person; the craft concerns how the palmist delivers the information; and the philosophy relates to the palmists responsibility to remind the person of his or her lifes purpose. By combining all of these facets, the palmist acts as a spiritual teacher and motivational catalyst, urging people to examine who they are, why they are here, and how they can best fulfill their personal missions.
Although basic concepts can be learned from a palmistry book, mastering the complete discipline requires study with a teacher over time. Traditionally, that teacher is a revered elder and relative who is also a mentor. When I was growing up in India, my father served as my guru, instructing me in the many facets of palmistry, spiritual growth, the healing arts, psychic awareness, herbal medicine and counseling. He took me to churches and temples where I studied the hands of priests, monks and nuns, assessing why they had chosen the religious path. On other days, we visited prisons determining from prisoners hands why these individuals had committed crimes. My father stressed the importance of being technically accurate as well as caring and non-judgmental toward everyone. I saw heads of state and other prominent people from many different countries visiting my father for guidance in addition to poor villagers who also sought out my fathers wisdom. Regardless of their financial or societal status, all were treated with equal dignity and I was fascinated to see how my father dealt so effortlessly with different types of individuals, somehow touching them all.
In addition to the technical aspects of palmistry, the psychic aspects form another important component. These nuances are regarded partially as a gift, based upon other lifetimes of spiritual work by the palmist. More than a simple assessment of the lines on the hand, psychic palmistry represents an intricate and specialized art that extends deeply, tapping into a person's soul.
Like an astrological chart, the palms form a blueprint for a persons life path, reflecting inherent traits, career possibilities, health and relationship tendencies, spiritual potential and past life experiences. The three major lines are the lifeline, which speaks for longevity and the physical body; the heart line, which concerns the emotional body; and the headline, which shows intellectual and mental patterns. Many other lines exist and the vibrations and shape of the hands and fingers are also taken into consideration.
The role of the palmist is not so much to "read the future" but rather to shed light on an individuals gifts and limitations, guiding the person to expand upon the positive and manifest their highest good. In fact almost nothing in the palm is set in stonein other words, the palm may be a map of your being but like a ships captain you determine which course you take in life. While the left palm reflects the past and forms the basic plan for ones life, the right palm shows the present and indicates future possibilities. Interestingly, no two palms are alike and the lines of the hands change as we move forward in life. I explain to people that the lines change when your life changes and your life changes when the lines change.
Palmistry can be a powerful key to helping us understand ourselves and tap into our personal power. The next time that you happen to glance at your palms, take a moment to notice the lines as more than random markings. Instead, see that they are precise and beautiful guidelines to who you are as a unique soul. Your life truly is in your handsand everything is up to you.
