spa bliss
I love California. It’s such a dichotomy. On the one hand, it’s the capital of the fast-paced, never-ending pursuit of glamour, quick-fix beauty and artificial youth at any cost, while on the other hand, it’s saturated with people seeking the all-natural, organic, no preservatives added, ?it’s all good? lifestyle. I’ve never quite understood why youth is so highly prized and sought after. I had a ball during my twenties but after everything I’ve learned and all the growing I’ve done since then, would I want to go through it all again? No thank you. I’ve earned every one of these fine lines that are persistently creeping out from the corners of my eyes and I am proud of them! Each of them is the hard won trophy of a lesson I’ve learned in my life, lessons about finding peace, about compassion and understanding others and myself, and most importantly about the lessons I’ve yet to learn. Now, having said that, I have nothing against soft, healthy, beautiful skin and maintaining a youthful sense of fun and energy. But I want it naturally, safely and I still want to be me when it’s over.

I’m really delighted that so many of California’s spas are offering natural, holistic, nourishing treatments aimed at healing, rejuvenating and balancing, rather than just focusing on outer beauty. Spa directors at day spas, resorts and destination spas are becoming much more educated on the benefits of herbal medicine, aromatherapy, Ayurvedic approaches to skincare and overall health as well as including clean organic food and yoga into their programs. In this month’s cover story, Kyle Roderick has highlighted some of the best places in California to find great quality natural spa treatments for any budget.

In addition to that, this month’s Kids On the Mat section, features an inspiring article by Darlene D’Arezzo highlighting the benefits of yoga for kids with special needs varying from physical limitations to mental retardation. Mary Thompson gives advice on how to create your own Ayurvedic skincare regimen right out of your own pantry, while David Crow illuminates the many health benefits of Clary Sage. As ever, our goal is to provide you with uplifting, informative and inspiring content. You’ll notice that we have opened our Speak Your Mind page where we can publish your letters and feedback. We would love to hear from you so please let us know what’s on your mind. You can send your letters to info@yogitimes.com.

Enjoy this issue and remember to take some time out for yourself. You deserve it.

Namaste,
Sophie Parienti
