bringing eastern self-healing to the west

How often do you encounter a doctor/healer/spiritual leader whose goal is not only to heal others – but to empower them to heal themselves? I had the unique opportunity of meeting with Dr. Zhi Gang Sha – a doctor of Chinese medicine (an expert acupuncturist and herbalist) as well as a western M.D.

Special Guest Interview
Dr. Zhi Gang Sha
He has mastered Qi Gong, Tai Chi, I Ching, Feng Shui, and has studied Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism at length. Since 1989, Dr. Sha has been spreading the word about Zhi Neng Medicine, a self-healing technique taught by his teacher, master and adoptive father, Master Zhi Chen Guo. According to Dr. Sha, millions of Chinese people practice the Zhi Neng techniques daily, and have improved their health naturally as a result.

According to Dr. Sha, good health begins with balanced cells. It states in his book that these self-healing techniques work because “they stimulate the vibration of the cells in order to balance the transformation between the matter inside the cells and the energy outside the cells. Since all unhealthy conditions arise from an imbalance in this transformation, restoring our energy balance and flow is what restores your health.”

To heal, one must stimulate cellular vibration, which removes blockages and creates flow. Because Power Healing involves your complete self – your body, mind, voice and soul – this self-healing approach is not only self-empowering, but a proactive step toward reclaiming your health from the hands of strangers and healing your life.

YT: In your book, “Power Healing,” you talk about ‘Soul Communication,’ what is that?
Dr. Sha: The soul is the invisible body. When people are sick, you see a dark spot on their soul. If you heal the soul first, the mind and body can follow. How many healers pay attention to the soul? It’s very rare.

YT: How do you define the soul?
Dr. Sha: The soul has no sex. It is the essence of life and the spirit body. Human beings have four bodies: physical, emotional, mind (consciousness) and soul. Organs and cells have each of these four bodies too. Everything has it – this glass has it! Spiritual development is way ahead of scientific development. Every organ can talk. Cells have emotional bodies too. The soul is the invisible essence of the

YT: Can your healing techniques be used to heal interpersonal relationships and emotional problems?
Dr. Sha: Healing for inter-personal relationships, anger, depression, anxiety, sadness, grief and fear – they are all described in the book. The basic concept is that the liver is connected with anger. Heart is depression. Spleen is worry...et cetera. So how do you fix this? If you are angry, how do you release it? Use ‘one hand near, one hand far’ technique.” (Dr. Sha then demonstrated, placing one hand about 4 inches away from the liver, the other about 12 inches away from the abdomen. He then chanted in Chinese the numbers seven – chi, which corresponds with the liver, and nine – jiu, the lower abdomen.) “Visualize a golden light flowing between the liver and the abdomen. Communicate with your liver, ‘I love my liver, I love my liver...thank you, thank you, thank you.”

YT: You quote a Chinese story in your book about a healer who sat on a mountain where the sick and weak struggled to get to him. Someone finally said, ‘Why don’t you go down to the town to heal the people? The really sick people can’t get up here, and only those who finally do make it up benefit.’ The healer refused to budge and replied, ‘Unless they make the trek up here, they’re not ready for the healing.’
Dr. Sha: Persistence! Everything is about persistence! I have three missions:
1) Millions of people are suffering. They deserve a solution.
2) I teach Americans how they can heal themselves and the techniques of Power Healing are simple and practical, easy to learn and they work!
3) Everyone has to practice. If you have suffered twenty-five years in chronic pain, you cannot expect to be healed in one or two times. Energy blockages take a long time to get there – it takes time to recover too.
Be patient, confident and persistent. Results will happen!

YT: How do you feel about Western medicine?
Dr. Sha: Americans depend too much on drugs and doctors. I understand, as an M.D. from China, that people are in pain. They are suffering. They take drugs to relieve the pain – I understand that. But now I work with the medical system and all the healing modalities to provide 5,000 years of Chinese energy and spiritual healing, wisdom, knowledge and practice to teach Americans that they can heal themselves. I had a person from the Learning Annex who had arthritis for fifteen years. I had her do ‘Near hand-far hand,’ and say, ‘I love my knee, I love my knee, I have the power to heal myself, I love my knee’ etc... After fifteen minutes, she stood up and tears ran down her face. She had not felt that kind of relief in fifteen years!
There are many healers in the world, but not that many who TEACH people how to heal. That’s my unique advantage.

YT: What do you say to someone who lives a very healthy life – eats good food, has little stress, exercises, gives unselfishly to the world has a strong spiritual and family life – yet comes down with cancer. How can this be?
Dr. Sha: Cancer is due to energy and spiritual blockages. In Western medicine they can’t find the exact cause of cancer. It could be chemical, stress, emotions, but in traditional Chinese medicine, anger is the key. When some people are really upset, they cry and release, but some people hold onto the energy. In ‘Yellow Emperor Canon’, the top Chinese medical textbook, it states that energy accumulating forms a shape, energy dissipating is just like a wave flowing away. This explains how tumors form. How do you heal cancer? Dissipate the energy. Something must be out of balance in a person’s life to get cancer. It could be a spiritual imbalance or karma issues. (At this point, Dr. Sha begins to laugh.) If you don’t believe in past lives, then we cannot talk about this! But if you borrow money from a bank, then you have a debt you must pay back. It’s the same with spiritual law. If you make a mistake in a past life, then you owe the spiritual world a debt. The pay back is life blockage: cancer, relationship break-ups, business failures, car accidents etc... That’s why spiritual blockage is the root of the current life blockage. If you make a mistake, you have to pay the price.

YT: If people with chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease follow your methods in Power Healing, can they get off their medications?
Dr. Sha: I don’t ever suggest that someone stop their drugs. Consult with your physician and tell them you are doing a self-healing technique. Ask them if you can cut back slowly off the drugs. I had a man who had high blood pressure and stopped his medication on his own, against my advice. He did the Power Healing technique for seven days and went back to his cardiologist. He was better. The doctor was impressed and said, ‘Okay, you can stop the drugs.’

YT: Can you see combining Power Healing with yoga?
Dr. Sha: Of course! I think Power Healing and Yoga can integrate perfectly. At the end of Yoga class, for example, the class could spend 5-10 minutes doing ‘near-hand, far-hand’ technique to self-heal pain and discomfort.

YT: Is there anything else you would like to add, Dr. Sha?
Dr. Sha: Power Healing gives the practical tools to everyone who has chronic pain and chronic conditions, including life-threatening ones. You have the power to heal yourself by awakening the cell’s healing abilities. The ability to heal is already there. You cut your finger, the body heals it; but people don’t know how to awaken the ability they already have! The body has the power, but you have to ask. We never ask! It’s simple wisdom. Americans live in a very complicated world; they expect complicated solutions. Someone says, ‘I’ve lived in pain for twenty years and you tell me I can get rid of this pain in one workshop? No way!’ People reject this idea because it’s so simple. I asked Master Guo, ‘What is the most difficult part about this system to understand?’ And he said, ‘It’s the realization of the simplicity. That’s the hardest thing for people to grasp.’
