WHAT'S NEW

Spring has sprung!  April is our Natural Health issue and Yogi Times is pleased to provide many different ways to "spring clean" the body & mind. This month, in our cover story, Yogi Times takes a look at The Four Pillars of Wellness, R.E.D.S, which is the acronym for Rest, Exercise, Diet, and Spirituality.

Also, a yoga teacher talks about how she healed herself from the inside out and about healing the world within. Discover what it was like to be raised on yoga when yogi wasn’t just a bear, learn about yoga therapy, the zen of tea, and get some original ideas for Mother’s Day gifts. Find the latest natural skin care products with ingredients you can actually pronounce and brush up on "the yoga of grammar" while you are at it!

On another note, in an effort to always provide our readers with visually and intellectually stimulating materials we are excited to announce that we have “spring cleaned” our website. Kudos to our in-house Art Director, Kiko Tabuchi, for her creative eye and her commitment to providing an aesthetically pleasing & user friendly tool.

Finally, we'd love to meet you face to face. Come visit us at our booths during Earth Day LA on the promenade in Santa Monica on April 15th and at the Whole Children, Whole Planet Expo on April 22 & 23rd at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Be sure to pick up your April issue of Yogi Times.  It has something for everyone.  Please give us feedback by sending your letters to the editor at info@yogitimes.com.

The Four Pillars of Wellness -
unlocking the secret to natural health

By Heidi Jo Corey & Dr. Gerald F. Corey
Photography by Jasper Johal

We’ve all encountered people in our lives who seem to have an inner glow about them, an inner beauty that has nothing to do with youth, movie star good looks or an hour glass figure. We can’t quite put our finger on what it is that sets them apart, but they seem to be surrounded by an energy of vitality and wellness. While there is an abundance of pills, powders and potions on the market that all claim to hold the secret of perfect health, the real secret behind that healthy glow can be found in one simple concept: balance. By maintaining a healthy balance between the opposing forces in our lives, we can achieve an optimal state of wellness that will accompany us throughout our lives.

Just as there are degrees of illness, there are degrees of wellness. Wellness is not something that merely happens to us, and it is much more than the absence of illness. It is the result of being conscious of our physical and psychological needs, and making a commitment to provide for those needs to the fullest extent possible. When we sacrifice our balance, we compromise our potential to be well.

Waiting for a Prosperous Prince?

finding abundance within

By Stacie Vining

What do yoga and financial success have in common? Along the yogic path of self-inquiry, we may begin to see that what we believe inwardly is what we experience outwardly. The degree to which we find it difficult to unconditionally love outwardly reflects the degree to which we don’t experience this inwardly. To love and value ourselves and others is the key to financial success.

Why do so many of us live in a state of perceived not-enough-ness, not-okay-ness? Why do we feel like we don’t deserve to enjoy abundance? “Limiting beliefs,” answers Blayney White, who draws from sixteen years of financial experience, an MBA from U.C. Berkeley and eighteen years of spiritual practices. In the yoga community, sometimes the spiritual ideals are the limiting beliefs.

“There is a common shared belief that poverty equals spirituality,” observes White. Working within the capitalistic system to experience your self is important. Otherwise it’s like putting water in front of a dog, but the dog believing that it’s not allowed or shouldn’t drink from the bowl.

Did you know that meditation can help lower blood pressure? It can. In fact, practicing meditation can also help you manage stress. A great thing to do when you’re feeling stressed (and maybe that blood pressure rising) is to stop, go someplace quiet, take a few deep breaths, and meditate. It will do wonders for you.
