go nuts for coconuts!

For years coconut oil has been misunderstood because it contains saturated fat. However, coconut oil does not contain your average run-of-the-mill saturated fats like you would find in cheese or steak. They contain fatty acids that go straight to the liver from the digestive tract, where they are used as a quick source of energy. Therefore, coconut oil is super healthy for you and you should use all the benefits it offers:

Health

Almost 50 percent of the fatty acids in coconut oil is the 12-carbon Lauric Acid. When coconut oil is enzymatically digested, it also forms a monoglyceride called Monolaurin.

Both Lauric Acid and Monolaurin can kill harmful pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungi.

Not only is it bacteria killer, coconut oil is a weight burner. The medium chain triglycerides in coconut oil have been shown to increase 24 hour energy expenditure by as much as 5 percent, potentially leading to significant weight loss over the long term.

So when cooking – try to use this divine oil. Since coconut oil has 90 percent of saturated fatty acids it makes it highly resistant to oxidation at high heats. For this reason, it is the perfect oil for high-heat cooking methods like frying.

Beauty

Coconut oil makes it easy and cheap to follow a beauty routine. Have you heard about oil pulling? It means using an oil as a mouthwash. You put a tablespoon of oil in your mouth (or just take a gulp in tropical areas since it becomes butter on temperature lower than 24 degrees Celsius), then swish it around for 15-20 minutes. It reduces plaque, gingivitis and bad breath.

The main benefit of doing this, is that it reduces the amount of harmful bacteria in the mouth.

Do you have problems with dry hair? After shampooing, apply a generous amount of coconut oil to wet strands and twist hair into a bun. Let it sit for at least five minutes before rinsing to add moisture and shine back into limp locks.

Dab it on your lips if they are chapped or under your eyes to fill the fine lines – let the coconut work its magic.

You can use it for make up removal, as shaving cream or as an excellent body scrub. How? Put half a cup of rough salt or sugar and mix it with the same amount of virgin coconut oil. After showering indulge in this mixture that will leave your skin soft as a baby.

Also a bit of coconut oil rubbed on to a sunburn or a rash caused by a plant will instantly stop the stinging. It will look and feel much better if you put it on your skin and let it sit until morning.

Need more convincing? How about this:

Weight loss

Coconut oil enhances the body’s ability to digest food and absorb nutrients so you can eat less without feeling weak or tired all the time. Also, because it is a natural mood elevator, daily intake of coconut oil can help you feel less stressed and more motivated to partake in healthy cardiovascular activities, which can help you to burn off persistent fat stores even faster.

Regular consumption of coconut oil has the power to ramp up your fat-burning potential – especially for losing stubborn belly fat – improving digestion, regulating appetite, and just making you feel good!

Wow to eat it

You can roast vegetables using coconut oil. Just coat vegetables in melted coconut oil and seasoning, and roast as you normally would. A good start is to make coconut roasted broccoli.

You can mix it in your favourite smoothie – just add a tablespoon of it in your dragon fruit, banana or lime shake.

If you are crazy about snacks and just cannot help yourself – how about popping your popcorn on coconut oil? Use enough coconut oil to coat the bottom of the pan, and use just enough kernels to make a single layer. We promise you this is amazing!
