peace – our responsibility

We have a responsibility to understand the deeper roots of any conflict that we experience in our lives. This understanding can help us discover more about ourselves. The more we know about ourselves the more able we become to choose how we want to be.

The ability to be present in every moment depends on our willingness to know and experience ourselves on every level, both the good and the bad. Ancestral patterns can give us keys to understanding the deeper roots of the recurring conflicts in our lives. This awareness is the key to ending the patterns of dysfunction that we all inherit. Getting to know ourselves through this awareness of our Ancestors, Grandparents, Parents and society allows us to be free from the role models they have passed on to us giving us the power to choose whether we keep these ways of being or loose them.

As children, we watch and learn. We use our parents and peers as examples to learn how to be in this world. As we discover ourselves we soon learn that what worked for our parents or society does not necessarily work for us. Sometimes these realizations come when others point out similarities between our parents and ourselves. At other times we become aware of them through our negative or emotional reactions to the patterns of our parents, friends or families. These realizations provide us with the opportunity for unprecedented self-discovery

Following are some questions that can heighten your awareness around Ancestral patterns. Create some meditation time away from distraction where you will not be disturbed. Close your eyes and allow your breathing to take you to a calm quiet space. Ask yourself these questions, letting the answers be. There are no right or wrong answers. Accept your answers as they come to you and recognize that they are based on your understanding at this time and your willingness to be totally honest with yourself. Do not write your answers down, trust that you will remember all that you need to.

By the Grace of the Universe, at this time, …

– What do I model or inherit from my father which is no longer appropriate?
– What do I model or inherit from my father’s line which is no longer appropriate?
– What do I model or inherit from my mother which is no longer appropriate?
– What do I model or inherit from my mother’s line which is no longer appropriate?

Ask, by the Grace of the Universe, for a prayer of forgiveness for ourselves, our parents, and our ancestors.

– What is the gift from my father which I am not yet fully using in my life at this time?
– What is the gift from my father’s line which I am not yet fully using in my life at this time?
– What is the gift from my mother which I am not yet fully using in my life at this time?
– What is the gift from my mother’s line which I am not yet fully using in my life at this time?

Ask, by the Grace of the Universe, for a prayer of gratitude for ourselves, our parents, and our ancestors. As the world gets to know itself it will naturally move away from disaster. Perhaps we have to experience devastation to know that we do not want it. This allows us to move into a way of being that is above destruction. Out from the rubble of conflict the flower of peace can grow, growing with a knowledge of self that strengthens its roots allowing it to reach even higher in pursuit of who it is.

As we get to know ourselves on all the different levels that exist within us, we gain an inner power that lights the path for all those around us, enabling them to find their path. Taking this responsibility for ourselves and, in essence, the world, allows us to grow tall. So too the world will grow.
