Mission Statement

Yogi Times Lifestyle Media Group is an influential,
public forum designed to share ideas and awaken
the creative spirit in everyone. We strive to unite communities and enhance lifestyles in areas of
conscious health and sustainability.

Yogi Times was born out of a vision to unify a community of people who were all seeking a unique lifestyle. In supporting that vision, an entire team of talented individuals come together each month and collectively share their knowledge, creativity and inspiration to produce our striking magazines.
Jean-Christophe Gabler Publisher, Founder

Jean-Christophe Gabler moved from France to Los Angeles in 1993. After pursuing a career in the entertainment industry for several years, he discovered his talent for finances while working on the development of Yogi Times Magazine. His yoga practice became a turning point in his life, giving him the focus and the direction he had been seeking. After returning from a 10 day Vipassana meditation course, JC delved into the publishing world with great passion and an intention to share the joy of yoga, health and sustainability with the world!

As the Publisher and Co-founder of Yogi Times,  JC’s focus is keeping the magazine running smoothly with an eye toward the future growth of the company.

He is overjoyed at the new arrival of his son, Enzo Parienti Gabler, born on the 22nd of May, 2006.

Sophie Parienti Editor-in-Chief, Founder

Bringing people together seems to be an ethos for Sophie Parienti. After earning her BA in Art history at the University of Bordeaux, France, she pursued an interest in Media and Communication with a Public Relations Cetificate at UCLA. Since first arriving in the states in 1992, she has delved deeply into the world of holistic health and yoga philosophy. Sophie trained with some of the most respected teachers in Los Angeles and turned her understanding of yoga into a lifestyle. For twelve years she dedicated her time to teach and spread the joy of yoga among her students. In 2002, she founded Yogi Times magazine in Los Angeles by gathering a team of passionate and dedicated entrepreneurial spirits who still run the magazine to this day. As a fearless leader, Sophie Parienti and her team have launched two other magazines: Yogi Times San Francisco and Yogi Times Business. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and Yogi Times co-founder, Jean-Christophe Gabler.

Kirsty King Associate Publisher

Kirsty came to Yogi Times having spent 10 years in publishing at Crain Communications where she gained extensive sales experience at leading publications including Advertising Age, Crain’s Business Magazines, and Modern Healthcare.  She brings to Yogi Times a wealth of knowledge on industry trends, media, marketing, advertising, web, events and distribution. A native of Scotland she came to Los Angeles in 1992 having received a BA in Commerce from Glasgow Caledonian University.  She introduced yoga to her life several years ago after too many sports injuries.  It was a decision, she believes, that opened her eyes to a new way of life and a joyful balance between health, fitness and wellbeing.

Editorial

Lisa Johns Managing Editor

Lisa Johns strives to be a “seer” in every sense of the word. Her natural curiosity for intellectual, artistic and spiritual enlightenment led her from the hustle and bustle of New York City, where she worked in sales for a multi-national publishing company, to the wall-to-wall skies of Southern California where the forces of the universe contrived a way for her path to coalesce with that of Yogi Times. As an artist, writer, poet, and performer, she is fascinated with images, with light, with all matters of perception. Her earliest influence was her mother, deaf since birth, who instilled a way of “seeing” that relies heavily on intuition and perception and requires a vigilant registering of movement, energy, and form of her surroundings. For Lisa, the yogi life is a direct extension of all that. Originally from Chicago, she has lived in cities across the U.S. and Europe, earning degrees in Art History from L’Université Stendhal in Grenoble, France, and a BA in French Language and Literature from the University of Akron and most recently, an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Southern California. She currently resides among the eucalyptus trees and bougainvillea branches of Laurel Canyon.

Nicole Peyraud Assistant Editor

Upon graduating from the University of Colorado’s School of Journalism in 2003, Nicole traveled east to begin her working life in New York City. After a brief stint in the ad world, Nicole rediscovered her passion for writing and trekked back across the country to join the mecca of aspiring creatives who comprise Los Angeles. Taken with the inspiring people she has met and the simple environment her beachside neighborhood provides, Nicole is proud to call Los Angeles home. The opportunity to join the Yogi Times team in 2007 was a true blessing for Nicole. Blending her talents and enthusiasm for writing, editing and progressive thinking, she connects with the magazine, staff and community on many levels. Her favorite part of the job is the ability to satisfy her cultural curiosity with the flood of community events, emails, books, DVDs and products that pass her desk each day. Nicole looks forward to expanding her awareness, honing her skills and growing alongside Yogi Times.

Beth Duggan Copy Editor

After graduating from the University of Missouri with a bachelor's degree in magazine journalism and minors in psychology and sociology, Beth picked up her Midwestern roots and moved to L.A. in January 2006 to help start a church in Santa Monica. She found her way to Yogi Times that October as an intern, and two months later, as copy editor. Beth draws inspiration into her life through nature, art, music, and the amazing group of family and friends
that surround her daily. A writer from the time she learned her ABCs, Beth brings a creative passion for language and grammar to the
YT team and is grateful to be working with so many other inspired individuals.

Doug's passion for mixing technology and changing behavior is what brought him to Yogi Times.  He is a life coach and master of deep listening.  And he loves to play with all things technical (and his two boys Jack and Owen).  When he is not Life Coaching, he helps us out with managing the YT Blog.  Take a deep breath and read about some things Doug has accomplished.  He has a Masters Degree in Spiritual Psychology, has lived in an ashram, managed a corporate training department responsible for the management development of over 400 retail locations, been ordained as a minister, certified as a Human Performance Technologist by USC/ASTD, graduated from Outward Bound, worked in an inner city hospital psychiatric unit, conducted Personal Information Management coaching for a David Allen company, trained in Creative Problem Solving through CSPI, co-presented with Rhonda Britten, managed the publicity campaign for a #1 New York Times best selling book, licensed facilitator of the Happy Healthy Wealthy Game, and is the husband to his magnificent wife and father to their two amazing and beautiful boys.

Ceara Martinez Advertising Sales

Ceara Martinez grew up in a small ski resort town in the Northwest. Relatively new to Los Angeles, Ceara moved here with the intention to connect with like-minded, spiritually centered individuals. She first discovered her passion to change the world in her journalism classes at the University of Oregon, where she learned what an impact a single individual can have, armed with the right information and the proper vehicle to disperse it to the masses. She was drawn to the mission of independent media and holds most of her experience working for various alt weeklies in the Northwest. Along the way her spiritual path began to grow as she became increasingly interested in the practice of Zen Buddhism, astrology and yoga. Ecstatic about joining the Yogi Times team, she feels she has found the outlet for which she has been searching. She knows through the combined effort of the community, Yogi Times will continue to have a positive, life-changing effect on its growing readership.

Parra Martinez Advertising Sales

Parra Martinez brings a strong commitment to the arts and a diverse background in sales and marketing to Yogi Times. After studying Communications at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, he made his way to the great Northwest city of Seattle, where his strong practice in Zen Buddhism, martial arts and yoga began to flourish. Working for one of the largest real estate companies in the city, he discovered his talent for connecting with others in both sales and leadership roles. After several years, he decided to bring his skills to the newspaper industry, where he found his passion in independent media. An opportunity to train martial arts with a high level, world leading expert in Ving Tsun, brought him to Los Angeles. The ability to intertwine his personal and professional objectives drew him to Yogi Times. He is thrilled to be working for a community driven publication where he can collaborate with others in the pursuit of wellness, while promoting the arts in all its forms and practices.
